Grades Teacher Position

We are seeking skilled, enthusiastic teachers with a love for children, commitment to personal and professional development, and strong collaborative skills. If selected, you will be joining in an innovative learning community of teachers, parents, and administrators.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher), a Waldorf Teacher Training Certificate, as well as an active anthroposophical practice. Possession of a teaching credential is preferred; diverse life experiences and interests are required.

For the 2018-19 school year, we have a Grade 1 opening and potentially others depending on intentions.

WSSB was founded in 1984 and is a long-time AWSNA affiliate. We are located in Goleta surrounded by green space with hiking trails, fields, streams, a eucalyptus grove, and parks on either side. The site offers many opportunities to connect with nature from our gardens and trails to our connections with local organic farms and ranches.

WSSB currently has a student population of 103 students from preschool through eighth grade who come from surrounding communities of Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria, Montecito, Santa Ynez and Lompoc. Situated near the world-famous University of California, Santa Barbara, our community enjoys easy access to high quality performing arts, farmer’s markets, and outdoor activities.

Early Childhood Lead Teacher

We are seeking warm, enthusiastic teachers to bring the Waldorf early childhood magic of rhythm, play, and foundational learning skills to life. If selected, you will be joining in an innovative learning community of teachers, parents, and administrators.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher), a Waldorf Teacher Training Certificate, and a striving anthroposophical practice. Possession of a teaching credential is preferred; diverse life experiences and interests are required.

Children in the Preschool program are ages 2.5 to 4.5 years old while the Kindergarten children range from 4.5 to 6.2 years old.

Strings Teacher

We are seeking a part-time strings instructor for the 2018-19 school year. If selected, you will be joining in an innovative learning community of teachers, parents, and administrators.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in music performance or music education, at least two years of experience teaching violin in a group lesson setting, ability to manage a classroom of elementary and middle school students, willingness to learn on the job, and a love of music and teaching.

Possession of a teaching certificate in Waldorf education is preferred. We offer a competitive hourly rate.

The Position
The instructor will teach six 45-minute class periods per week, leading fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh graders on the basics of violin playing in a group lesson setting. Each class will contain approximately 12-16 students. Strong support and guidance will be given throughout. Depending upon on demand and availability, the instructor may have the opportunity to take on private students.

Handwork Teacher

We are seeking a part-time handwork teacher for the 2018-19 school year. If selected, you will be joining in an innovative learning community of teachers, parents, and administrators.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (or higher), demonstrated expertise in handicrafts, at least two years of experience teaching children in a group lesson setting, ability to manage a classroom of elementary and middle school students, willingness to learn on the job, and a passionate love for the arts and teaching.

Possession of a teaching certificate in Waldorf education is preferred. We offer a competitive hourly rate.

The instructor will teach two 45-minute class periods per week, grades 1-7. Each class will contain approximately 12-16 students. Strong support and guidance will be given throughout. Depending on demand and availability, the instructor may have the opportunity to take on private students.
