Happy Michaelmas!

A Beautiful Michaelmas!

We had a beautiful day at the beach today to celebrate our first festival of the season, Michaelmas. The Grade students presented the play, Nkosnati and the Dragon. The challenges then began with an obstacle course, followed by building sand castles incorporating all four elements: earth, water, air, and fire. The Early Childhood students enjoyed a treasure hunt and discovered sparkling dragon eggs. We ended the day with a gratitude circle and hula-hoop game.

Thank you everyone for making the festival a joyful and festive day! A special thank you to Ms. Anderson for creating the vision, to Mr.Gaddis for building the obstacle course, and to our alumni life guards!

A Successful Back to School Night

Thank you to all that were able to make it to our Back to School Night and presentation with Kim John Payne. The contact information for all committees and upcoming events is attached to this newsletter.

Kim presented about Social Inclusion and how to build resilience in students. This has been a significant focus in the school's training in Integrative Student Support. In the coming newsletters, we will share tools and resources from this compassionate, holistic, defined, and collaborative approach. We will also be sharing our updated student behavior guidelines that is informed by this model.

Below you will see two resources from our training: The Spiral from Light to Moderate to Close Holding and The Journey Through the Three Tiers. Both give a visual representation of how support increases with the needs of the students.

We look forward to sharing more about this work!

Castle and Grounds - From Chris Del Moro

Fellow Waldorf families,

We are asking for volunteers to join the fun and rewarding Castles and Grounds committee. In a nutshell, I can promise you a few things if you choose to get involved:

  1. This is the best free work out in SB county!

  2. The rewards for our school grounds/teachers will put a pep in your step every time you see your handy work around campus.

  3. Your child will respect your commitment and presence on so many positive levels.

  4. The personal benefits are huge. Not only do you get to interact with your child in their school day, but you get a deeper connection to the faculty, and all of these perks makes for a healthier school culture.

We have many projects this year, from a garden makeover, fencing, weeding, watering, building, sweeping, to creative designs and art. We will have a project for everyone's strengths. Consider an hour after drop off to help, or maybe an hour before pick up; no time is bad and no help is too little. Please write to me or to the teacher's representative, Ms. Anderson to get involved and join our epic group of parent volunteers.

Our first meeting will be next Monday October 5th after school @ 3:00 pm. There will be after care if needed and we can get the ball rolling. Thanks for all.

Best, Chris Del Moro
