Tara Trujillo Trevino
Tara Trujillo Trevino grew up in the small town of Lompoc, California, and was an athlete all through high school. At 17, she joined the Army and served in two deployments overseas as a Preventive Medicine Specialist. She brings with her the perseverance and strong attention to detail that are characteristic of a military background. Tara has worked or volunteered in public education for most of the years since then, and it was there that she discovered how enjoyable it is to engage with children who have special needs.
Tara was introduced to Waldorf education when her youngest son was born, and has been on a journey of learning and transformation ever since, really taking to heart Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophical indications. She completed her early childhood training at the Waldorf Institute of Southern California, and is in the grades training program at the Micha-el Institute in Portland. Additionally, she has completed the Waldorf Practical Arts Training and a Werbeck singing course.
A lifelong learner, Tara has delved into a myriad of other studies including earning her BA in Psychology at Chapman University, and she continues to attend the University of Massachusetts Global for her Master’s degree in Special Education. Her interest in compassionate communication led her to complete a mediation course, and she frequently enrolls in the free Non-Violent Communication courses at Santa Barbara City College. She has completed the first two years of training at the Academy of Forest Kindergarten Teachers, and studies alternative healing modalities. She is a Reiki Master, steward of Indigenous wisdom, and ordained minister. Alongside this, she has studied dog training under Cesar Millan, and carries his signature calm assertiveness into her classroom.
At home, Tara is married to her high school sweetheart, whom she reconnected with after 35 years. She is the mother of three grown children, grandmother of four precious little ones, and her youngest son, Tucker, is in WSSB.
Tara is an avid traveler with a wide range of interests. In her spare time, you can usually find her carving or sewing a gift, singing, or participating in an immersive experience in an ashram. She enjoys puzzles, cooking, contra dancing, writing, meditating, and walking barefoot in nature with her dog, Bullet.
