All Creatures Great and Small
We have many animal friends on campus right now! We have two lambs that are being tended by the 4th and 5th Grade, baby chicks in Lavender Rose, bunnies in Morning Glory, a guinea pig class pet in Grade 1, and the hens in Grade 3.
There is an intention behind our small menagerie! Caring for animals helps children develop empathy, responsibility, and self-confidence while providing emotional support and reducing stress. It encourages physical activity, teaches patience, and fosters a connection to nature.
Tending animals teaches the students accountability and routine that foster independence and self-reliance. It also helps the students understand the needs and feelings of others, which promotes kindness and gentleness.

Grade 8 Mentorship Projects
On Wednesday evening, the 8th Grade students presented their yearlong mentorship projects.
In this assignment, each student decides on an area of study to pursue with the guidance of a mentor teacher. After many months of diligence, they presented to the community.
Here are the areas they chose:
Meliny Garcia: piano
Penelope Katsapis: hair styling
Christian Relis: fishing and boating
Akim Sutter: beat production
Alina Stever-Murray: singing
Trey Wehrman: scuba diving
The students closed the evening by sharing the following verse:
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. The moment one commits, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now."
May Faire and Special Friends Day
On May 7, we will have our annual May Faire festival along with our Grandparents and Special Friends Day. Please mark your calendars and invite grandparents and special friends to join us. Watch for a flyer with all the details next week!
Grade 2 at El Capitan Ranch
Grade 2 ventured up to El Capitan Ranch this week to visit Farmer Larry and the goats, sheep, and llamas that live there.
Farmer Larry showed the students how to shear a sheep. The fleece will be used next year in their study of fiber arts. They also pet the llamas, were visited by a very large donkey, and sang songs of gratitude to Farmer Larry!
